Poker in the Pub

The Poker in the Pub season 3 final table was held on Sunday 7th June at the Golden Nugget casino in Las Vegas and what a fantastic day was had by all! The atmosphere was very exciting as the players sat down to begin the game. Some players may have been feeling a little worse for wear from the previous nights antics, in particular Chris Bravender who got to bed at 6.30 am, and Lewis Grady who had a suspicious looking bruise on his forehead which he apparently got from headbutting a beer bottle after loosing on the black jack tables!

The starting chip counts for the 8 players were as follows:

  • Terry Rowley 337,800
  • Tom Sutton 276,000
  • Charlie Johnston 242,000
  • Nicola Robinson 124,000
  • Lewis Grady 117,000
  • Eammon O'Boyle 108,000
  • Chris Bravender 79,800
  • Kerr Harris 53,000

The first casualty in the game was Kerr Harris from The Old Racecourse Hotel in Scotland, Kerr was knocked out in the first 15 minutes when his pocket 10's were beaten by Chris Bravenders pocket J's. Kerr seemed dissapointed but happy to have made it that far as he walked away to buy some drinks with his $50 winnings.

Niki Robinson who made it to Vegas in our May national finals was our next casualty with only one card away from having a straight, the seven she needed just wasn't there so she was taken out by Tom Sutton who at this point was our chip leader.

Chris Bravender saw his chances for a possible flush and went all in with his K, 9 of hearts. With two hearts already on the table before the rivercard,  things were looking good, unfortunately the river delivered an Ace of diamonds giving Lewis Grady trip A's, knocking poor Chris out of the game.

Eammon O'Boyle went all in with A,10 and hit a straight putting him firmly back in the game but leaving Terry Rowley with only 150 chips, quite scary when you think Terry was our chip leader at the start of the tournament with 337,800! Unfortunately Charlie Johnston was Eammons next victim with his 5,8 clubs being beaten by pocket J's.

Terry's time was short lived as he was forced to go all in with K,7 and was taken out of the game by Tom Sutton's pocket A's.  At this point though everyone seemed happy with how far they had come and the family and friends support was very much welcomed.

We were now down to our final three, Tom Sutton, Lewis Grady and Eammon O'Boyle, with 2000 / 4000 blind levels things were getting really interesting especially when Tom went all in with K,Q against Lewis' K, 8.  Amazingly Lewis won with a straight and Tom was left with only two thousand chips, making his position in the game very weak.

Tom seemed a man not to be beaten as he brought his play back when his trip K's beat Eammon's trip 2's. Alas this was not enough to keep him in the game as shortly after Tom went all in with A,7 and was beaten by Lewis Grady's trip 3's. Tom seemed very happy with his $150 winnings though and I am sure will find a way to spend them.

We were now heads up between Lewis Grady,  who was being watched by his very proud Dad, Gordon, and Eammon O'Boyle who was with his wife Susan. Lewis was by far the chip leader at this point however the game didn't continue for much longer when Lewis hit a full house with 10's and A's this meant he had beaten Eammon's K, 2 making Lewis Grady our Poker in the Pub champion for Season 3.  A great day overall and our first ever final table in Las Vegas, we look forward to many more.  Congratulations to everyone who took part and congratulations again to Lewis Grady for becoming Poker In The Pub champion of 2009!

Here is to the rest of the week in Vegas!

Poker event in memory of Andy Piper!

Last night a poker tournament was held in memory of Andy Piper who died in a tragic accident last year.  We had a turn out of around 30 players mixed with beginners and seasoned Poker in the Pub players.  The overall night was a great success with plenty of ladies participating.  The game was full of suprises with regular players going out first for a change! A few ladies that did well were Tammy Christie who had an amazing chip count the whole way through but sadly was knocked out in 4th position, however for someone who did not have a clue and had never played before very well done.  Another lady who was playing was Jan Brannan, wife of the owner of Poker in the Pub, Dave Brannan and mother of Caroline our Customer Service Manager, who had also never played and came out in a very respectful 6th position. The whole night managed to raise £200 for Jeramiahs Journey and got lots of Andy's friends and family together. The overall winner of the night was a lady called Suzanne who also had never played before and who won a chip set donated by Drinkstuff.com.
